Chemical Bank to build new headquarters in Downtown Detroit
The largest bank headquartered in Michigan is moving its headquarters to Michigan's largest city. Chemical Bank plans to build a new 20-story building in downtown Detroit in an effort to become a major player in the Metro Detroit financial scene. Construction could begin next year, with plans showing completion within the next three years. Chemical Bank has been headquartered in Midland for more than 100 years. Thankfully, Detroit's gain isn't necessarily Midland's loss. The bank will maintain its Midland offices and employees. MORE

Huge 1996 tire fire near Traverse City caused PFAS plume

Firefighting foam has caused numerous PFAS plumes in Michigan. An old video of a massive 1996 tire fire has led to the discovery of another one. Testing is ongoing to determine the size of this plume outside Traverse City, and whether it contaminated the on-site well of a nearby elementary school. The tire fire burned for more than three weeks, billowing black smoke high into the air. Officials surmise a large amount of foam was used in attempts to curtail the conflagration. MORE
