Michigan's median household income up 3.3%  in 2018, new Census data shows
 
The good news: Michiganders saw higher incomes last year. In 2018, the state's median household income was $56,697, up from $54,909 in 2017. The bad news: When considering inflation, the numbers are still below pre-recession levels. We are actually still about 5% below that number. When looking at poverty rates in Michigan, those are slightly down for 2018, but our state is still above the national average, according to the Census data. We took a hard look at the newly released numbers and have plenty of info that paints a financial portrait of Michiganders last year. MORE

New state rule could leave many without their mental-health counselor
hat 
If Michigan's regulatory agency adopts new wording, tens of thousands of people in the state could be without access to mental health services through their licensed professional counselors. LPCs, who have at least a master's degree, treat a reported 150,000 patients in Michigan. If the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs changes their guidelines, it could prevent those counselors from treating and diagnosing patients. MORE
