January 20, 2022 Michigan counties with higher vaccination rates had lower COVID-19 death rates from July to December 2021 – a period dominated by the delta variant and during which vaccines were readily available. For every additional 10 percentage points a county was vaccinated, it had 0.9 fewer deaths per 10,000 residents between July and December, per an MLive analysis of Michigan COVID-19 data. For example, the trends show a county with 100,000 people (like Bay County) would have nine fewer deaths over the six months if it had a 60% vaccination rate instead of a 50% rate.
