Michigan's next water crisis is PFAS - and you may already be affected
PFAS is the simple term for the chemicals that have created a complex crisis for Michigan residents. While some are already aware that per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances have contaminated their land, their water and their bodies, the state crisis is just starting. To date, more than 30 sites in 15 Michigan communities have confirmed PFAS contamination and public health experts link exposure to increased risks of cancer, liver damage and other ailments. But with PFAS found in many products used throughout the state for decades, the story of what some call the "forever chemicals" has no end in sight. MORE

3 immigrant children under age 5 reunited with parents

A joyful reunion took place Tuesday as three young children were reunited with parents at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in Grand Rapids. The children were separated from their families at the U.S.-Mexico border as part of the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" immigration policy. The reunification came at the order of a U.S. District Court judge who decreed children under 5 had to be reunited with parents by July 10. Older children must be reunited by July 26. MORE

Lake Michigan water temperature crashes in just two days

Michigan has seen a heat wave of sorts lately. Briefly, that warm weather translated into warm water. Those hoping to hop in Lake Michigan and feel the warmth are now facing disappointment. The temps in the big lake have plummeted over the course of just a couple days. One location even recorded a 24-degree drop in water temperature in 48 hours. This doesn't mean you can't swim. It just means you will need guts -- warm guts, preferably. MORE

Jim Brandstatter replaced on Detroit Lions radio broadcasts after 31 years

When you turn on your radio to listen to the Detroit Lions later this year, the games won't sound quite the same. Jim Brandstatter, the man who provided his voice to Lions broadcasts as a color analyst for the last 31 years, has been fired by WJR. "I can't thank Lions fans enough for spending time with me on all those Sundays," Brandstatter wrote on Twitter when announcing the change. The longtime analyst will be replaced by former Lion Lomas Brown, WJR confirmed. Not everything about the football broadcasts will change. Play-by-play announcer Dan Miller will return to his microphone when the season begins. MORE

2,000 kids let loose in a 150-foot pit of mud

Clean freaks, BEWARE! These photos are not for you. That's because they are full of mud-covered children splashing in a huge, dirty puddle and just loving life. For more than three decades, Mud Day has been a thing in one Southeast Michigan community. Participants throw caution (and cleanliness) to the wind as they frolic in cool, filthy mud. Kids weren't the only ones getting in on the action, either. Some adventurous adults embraced their inner children and splashed around. We even have the photos to prove it. MORE
