Dreaming of your own ice cream business? |
If one of your 2024 goals involved entrepreneurship, you might be in luck. A West Michigan couple is looking for new owners to take over their floating ice cream truck business. Megan Ward and Isaiah Kinney's floating boat business, Ice Cream Afloat, set sail nearly a year ago in June 2023 on Lake Macatawa in Holland. But the couple is relocating and decided to leave the business behind. They're hoping to find someone who will "continue our mission to serve ice cream and happiness to the boaters of Michigan." Speaking of ice cream, Michigan Cream & Sugar Ice Cream Co in Bay City is inviting customers to its "Stuff Your Stanley" event on Friday, March 22. Dessert lovers can bring their clean, empty 30-40 ounce tumblers and get it stuffed with four scoops of made-from-scratch ice cream for $10. |

"(We sell) things you'd typically find on an ice cream truck," said Ward. (Cory Morse | MLive.com) |

Michigan’s population growth is heading north. See how your county is changing. |
Moving up: Michigan has lost an estimated 33,366 residents in the past three years, but the west and northern side of the state are on the rise. Northern Michigan had the highest concentration of counties with population growth, reversing the trend from the Census’ Decennial report four years ago. Citizens say:According to the latest U.S. Census Bureau data, Ottawa County is the fastest growing among the state’s 10 most populous counties. Amid a sea of local political turmoil, MLive/The Grand Rapids Press asked residents how they feel about living in Ottawa County. House of the Week: It's rare to see a Frank Lloyd Wright designed home on the market, but a four-bedroom and two-bathroom home in Kalamazoo is up for sale. Listed at $790,000, it is the lowest-priced Usonian home in the world, said Jaqua Realtor Fred Taber. |

Early Spring is dead in Michigan, heavy snow is on the way for some areas |
More snow: While parts of Michigan saw light snow on Wednesday, a much heavier, several-inch snowfall is expected for Thursday night into Friday. The current storm forecast calls for up to 6 to 9 inches of snow across the central and northern parts of Michigan. Areas in the southern tier of the state could see closer to 1 to 3 inches of snow. Need to know: The big problem with the timing of this system is it’s expected to impact the Friday morning commute. South of I-96, snowfall totals are expected to be lower than 4 inches on Friday. The Upper Peninsula is also in line for more snow on Friday. DNR says: The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is reminding everyone who lives in Northern Michigan’s bear country to take some preventative measures this spring by removing food sources like bird feeders or garbage. |

Tom Izzo: Any NCAA Tournament changes need to be ‘looked at seriously’ |
Modified: The NCAA Tournament seems destined for change in the near future, as administrators talk of expanding the field beyond 68 teams and potentially changing the process for selecting those teams. Tom Izzo called it a "delicate issue" as he answered questions about the potential changes. Keeping the faith: Michigan State senior center Mady Sissoko "played like a wild man" according to Tom Izzo during last week's game against Purdue. He did it all while fasting from food and drink since sunrise as he observes the holy month of Ramadan in the Muslim faith. In the NBA: The Detroit Pistons extended their current losing streak to four games, falling short against the Indiana Pacers 122-103 on Wednesday night at Little Caesars Arena. |
