Michigan's Republican strongholds have lower vaccination rates, higher COVID case rates Michigan counties that showed the biggest backing for Donald Trump in the 2020 election have, on average, significantly lower COVID-19 vaccination rates than the state average, an MLive data analysis shows. Those counties also are averaging higher COVID-19 case rates and positivity rates for the month of April. Meanwhile, the 12 counties in which Trump received less than 50% of the vote in November are averaging higher vaccination rates and slightly lower COVID-19 case rates than the statewide average, the analysis shows. MLive compared vaccination rates in the 16 Michigan counties where Trump received two-thirds or more of presidential vote in November 2020 to the 12 counties where Trump received less than half the vote. The state has steadily lost seats in the U.S. House over the last half-century, dropping from 19 representatives to 13 representatives. The U.S. Census Bureau announced the congressional apportionment for the next election cycle, based on population data collected in 2020, during a Monday press conference. Congressional apportionment also impacts the number of votes a state has in the Electoral College. Michigan will lose one electoral vote, dropping from 16 to 15. Cyber Ninjas is the name of a Florida-based consulting firm owned by Doug Logan, who’s expressed support for election fraud “Stop the Steal” conspiracy theories on social media. MORE T.J.
