Making money never sounded so good. Michigan pension fund managers had their ears out for solid investments when they committed $25 million to Concord Music. The music publishing company owns the rights to nearly 400,000 copyrighted works. The hits -- as diverse as Young MC's Bust a Move to Christmas in Dixie by Alabama -- kept paying, so Michigan kept investing. In all, Michigan's pension fund has invested $1.1 billion in Concord Music. The results have been a toe-tapping $700 million return. You'd think the restrictions in place at airports for carry-on items would be part of the national consciousness by now. You'd be wrong though. Some people's kids still don't know you can't take martial arts weaponry onto an airplane. We are willing to forgive the occasional can of shaving cream. Governor Gretchen Whitmer is convinced Michigan can do better with its criminal justice system. The Michigan Task Force on Jail and Pretrial Incarceration will try to determine if she is right. Whitmer created the bipartisan task force Wednesday by executive order. MORE

Matthews officially leaving college for NBA

He came to Michigan as a fallen star. After a stellar prep career in Chicago, Charles Matthews headed to Kentucky as a heralded prospect with designs on an early NBA career. It didn't work out for him in Lexington. So he went north to Ann Arbor, sat out a year and then helped lead Michigan to its winningest two-year stretch in program history. Matthews, a redshirt junior, officially confirmed his decision to turn pro. MORE
