The music publishing company owns the rights to nearly 400,000 copyrighted works. The hits -- as diverse as Young MC's Bust a Move to Christmas in Dixie by Alabama -- kept paying, so Michigan kept investing. In all, Michigan's pension fund has invested $1.1 billion in Concord Music. The results have been a toe-tapping $700 million return.
