Michigan's colleges and universities are bleeding revenue amid coronavirus closures
 
College campuses are empty across Michigan. In-person classes were suspended last month to help limit the spread of the coronavirus. The changes are costing higher education institutions millions of dollars. It's impacting small private colleges as well as large public universities. Like other industries, higher education is using hiring freezes and furloughs as cost-saving tools. At the same time, in an effort to limit declines in enrollment, many colleges are implementing tuition freezes, meaning they can't make up any revenue losses there. Senate wants elective medical procedures, construction to resume
 
On Tuesday, the Michigan Senate adopted two resolutions urging Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to loosen certain restrictions of the state's stay-at-home order. Specifically, the resolutions request Whitmer allow medical professionals to make decisions about non-emergency procedures and allow construction businesses to reopen within the state. MORE

Shipwreck  
Shipwreck discovered on Lake Michigan beach near Ludington
 
Part of a wooden vessel has washed up on the shores of Lake Michigan and historians are working to identify the ship. Found late last week on a beach north of Ludington, experts say the remains are consistent with schooners built between the 1850s and the 1880s. A local museum and the Michigan Shipwreck Research Association are collaborating to dig up details on the wreck. MORE
