Michigan spent $2B to improve its roads, bridges in 2023 |
In 2023, the Michigan Department of Transportation invested almost $2 billion to improve and maintain its share of Michigan’s roads and bridges. Those dollars resulted in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of about 1,187 lane miles and 96 bridges, plus maintenance on another 914 lane miles and 131 bridges, according to data provided to MLive by MDOT. More in financial news: When state lawmakers return to Lansing next month, they may consider capping interest rates charged by payday lending companies, who market themselves as providing easy ways to cover unexpected or emergency costs. Interest would be capped at a 36% annual percentage rate if Senate Bill 632 or House Bill 5290 pass. Rates in some cases now can exceed 340%.

Liquor superstores ring up multi-million dollar footprint in Michigan |
Making a change: Liquor superstores are finding a market in Michigan as shoppers turn to large format stores packed with product to buy their beer, wine and spirits. In recent years, liquor superstores have become some of the top alcohol retailers in the state. Total Wine, a national chain that opened four Michigan stores in 2021, secured the top four sales spots last year. It’s among individual, high-traffic Meijer and Costco stores that tend to bring in the biggest sales. In environment: Michigan is among the few places worldwide with the goal to get off fossil fuels written into law before the recent and unprecedented international deal. |
