Michigan State to fire Mel Tucker amid sexual harassment allegations

Laying it out : Michigan State University on Monday announced its intention to fire the fourth-year football coach for cause amid allegations of sexual harassment. If Tucker can’t provide reasons he didn’t violate terms of his contract, he will be fired on Sept. 26.

Warming trend coming, will extend summer-like temps

We’ll see more and more sunshine throughout the week with a gradual warming trend that has each day about 5 degrees warmer than the last. Mark Torregrossa says today’s temperatures will feel fall-ish but Wednesday and Thursday lean towards more summer weather.

It might stay: This emerging weather pattern may hold off tough-to-work-in weather for at least several weeks to over a month.

UAW will extend strike pay to 600 laid-off Ford workers, potential GM layoffs

Tipped dominoes: About 600 Ford employees were left in limbo temporarily as their work was idled as their neighboring division walked out. The UAW has decided to offer the $500 weekly strike pay to any workers who are laid off as a result of the strike.

Related: A supplier to the Big Three automakers has told the state that it will lay off nearly 300 employees at factories in Lapeer and Shiawassee counties as a result of the United Auto Workers strike.

An update: A Davison man accused of threatening the president of the United Auto Workers has been arraigned in Genesee County District Court on false report of terrorism charges.

Michigan high school sports participation numbers rank among the highest in the nation

Scoring high: Michigan ranked ninth for overall participation in high school sports nationally, based on a total of 268,070 participants who competed in sports for which the MHSAA conducts postseason tournaments.

Another ranking: The newly released U.S. News and World Report rankings features numerous Michigan colleges and universities, including two within the top-100 of all national universities.

In sports: C.J. Gardner-Johnson is reportedly feared to have suffered a torn pec and is out indefinitely, potentially for the season.

Mackinac Island wins spot on nationwide list of Best Places to Visit for Fall

The people voted: USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Travel Awards placed Mackinac Island as third on a nationwide list of the Best Places to Visit for Fall. The island was just behind two mountain towns: Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Allegany County in Maryland.

Another top spot:Tahquamenon Falls State Park came in at No. 2 on a list of best places to see fall color, right behind a park in... Pennsylvania?
