Michigan State officially hires Mel Tucker as head football coach to replace Dantonio
 
After a week of uncertainty, Michigan State hired Mel Tucker seemingly as suddenly as Mark Dantonio retired from the position. Tucker, who spent the last year coaching the Colorado Buffaloes, showed up in East Lansing Wednesday. He talked to media about returning to the campus where he began his coaching career as a graduate assistant in 1997. Dantonio issued a press release regarding his successor. "Mel is charismatic, brings good energy and is a forward thinker," the release read. MORE

State halts 14 illegal gambling operations in 6 Michigan counties

Fourteen Michigan businesses have been shut down by the state as officials claim they were offering illegal gambling to customers. Spread through six counties, the businesses claimed they were operating legal redemption games, but instead were offering casino-style video slot machines, according to the state.
