Michigan Supreme Court hears arguments on school gun policy
Do Michigan school districts have the right to prohibit and/or restrict firearms on school grounds? Do such policies overstep state law or case law, or infringe on an individual's right to bear arms? The Michigan Supreme Court on Wednesday heard arguments on both sides of the issue during a hearing that pitted gun rights groups against Ann Arbor Public Schools and Clio Area School District. The timetable for a court decision is unknown. Supreme Court justices could uphold lower court rulings in favor of the schools, reverse the rulings or grant leave for appeal, which would lead to more briefings before a final decision. MORE

$45 million mystery development gets OK from Burton city officials

What is it gonna be? The secrecy behind a potential 1.1 million-square-foot development near Flint, nicknamed "Project Fusion," is rather stunning. Apparently, the project isn't Amazon, but it would be a distribution center of some sort. We won't know what it is until the Fortune 500 company behind it all steps out from behind the curtain. MORE

The songbird, which is native to Northern Michigan, has rebounded from less than 200 pairs in 1967 to more than 2,000 today. Such a comeback is music to our ears. MORE

Are Tiger fans going easy on new coach or just apathetic?

Detroit Tigers first-year manager Ron Gardenhire made a questionable decision in the ninth inning of Tuesday night's 2-1 loss at Cleveland. He could have pinch hit for a rookie and gone with a more experienced replacement. He stuck with the rookie, who proceeded to strike out. Evan Woodbery surmises former manager Brad Ausmus would have been roasted for not making a switch. But the rules to fan outrage might be different during this rebuild. MORE
