Activists have been lamenting the seemingly slow pace of cleaning up the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda. The site is polluted with PFAS, which has been leaking into the surrounding waterways. In fact, the community has some of the highest levels of PFAS ever recorded in fish. However, developments this week on the federal level could spark action on the cleanup front. In one of the first moves of his tenure, the new U.S. Secretary of Defense announced a PFAS task force.
