U-M, MSU renew rivalry Saturday so let's review some key moments from meetings past
There aren't many bigger events on the sports calendar for Michigan State and Michigan fans than Saturday's annual gridiron tussle. The old in-state foes square off at noon Saturday at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing. Of course, we've got you covered with everything (and more) you need to know in preparation for the football festivities. Here's just a taste: The host Spartans (4-2) are ranked No. 24 and coming off an impressive win at Penn State. The No. 6-ranked Wolverines (6-1) got a big win last week, too, handling Wisconsin at home. National pundits are leaning toward Michigan in this one. However, U-M coach Jim Harbaugh is just 1-5 against MSU and Ohio State, while MSU coach Mark Dantonio has gone an impressive 8-3 in the rivalry. MORE

Visions of jackpots dancing in their heads

Do you have lottery fever?  If you don't, you may be among the minority. Of course, none of us actually are going to win either of the big jackpots up for grabs tonight and Saturday. (We are just going on percentages here.) However, there is something about $1 billion that kinda grabs our attention. Somebody will win these things eventually, right? So, heck, might as well indulge in a daydream or two about how you'd spend your windfall. It might even help get you through the dregs of the work week. That'd be a big win in and of itself! MORE

Here are two stories about the good people who walk among us

The heartwarming stories out there sometimes get lost in the daily shuffle, as the din from hard news can prove difficult to overcome. However, we enter the weekend buoyed by the efforts of Michiganders who recently went out of their way to be kind to their fellow humans: A teacher in Davison escorted a pair of girls - along with his own daughter - to a daddy-daughter dance after their father unexpectedly passed away. A restaurant worker in Battle Creek drove 450 miles round trip after work one night to deliver a pizza to a man in hospice care. These acts of kindness weren't random. They were as purposeful as they are wonderful. MORE

It is now or never for high school football teams on the playoff bubble
hat
The high school football regular season ends tonight. That means it is last call for teams needing a sixth win to automatically qualify for the playoffs. There are quite a few bubble teams across the state facing this predicament. There are even a handful of games on tonight's slate featuring a pair of five-win squads. These games are, basically, pre-playoff playoff games, and the tension should be palpable. MORE

Things to do this weekend in Michigan

Some people celebrate Halloween all month long. If you are among that Halloween-loving crowd, we have ways to get your seasonal fix this weekend. Looking for something to do with the little ghouls and goblins in your life? There are "zoo boo" events taking place throughout Michigan. The kids can dress up, collect goodies and you might even see some animals smashing pumpkins. After taking the kids out for some fun, maybe the adults want to head to a concert? There are plenty to catch this weekend, from Ozzy Osbourne to Joan Jett to Keith Urban. MORE
