This summer as the rollercoasters rumble and the crowds line up at Michigan’s Adventure, one thing will be different: the amusement park will be cashless. The park is joining a growing trend of Michigan businesses, venues and organizations that are eliminating cash transactions. But don’t worry, cash isn’t going away. Three major Detroit venues, Comerica Park, Little Caesars Arena and Fox Theatre, have recently gone cashless and the LMCU Ballpark near Grand Rapids announced plans to transition this summer. Michigan lost to Villanova on Thursday night, 63-55, so instead of advancing to the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight, the Wolverines will head home for good. Said the normally verbose Hunter Dickinson: “It just wasn’t our night.” One of his Michigan teammates, Eli Brooks, said Michigan got the shots it wanted but just didn’t convert enough. The Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission largely avoided the deadlocks and partisan divides that plagued other states. And as their self-imposed end-of-year deadline loomed, commissioners approved a final product with fewer fireworks than many expected. Many national redistricting observers view that as a win. A man who admitted conspiring to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said he hoped to die in an expected shootout with police. Kaleb Franks, 27, the second man to testify against former co-defendants, said Thursday that he was depressed after his mother, stepfather and stepbrother died. “I was hoping that I would be killed in the process … because I no longer wanted to live. … I was struggling financially, just wasn’t happy.” Franks is testifying against four men charged in the alleged kidnapping plot. It’s not a totally wintry weekend, but it’s close. Fortunately, we probably aren’t going to be faced with heavy accumulations of snow. Any snow will be a lake-effect snow, so the snow would be fairly isolated.
