Effective Aug. 1, Michigan State University will have its first full-fledged president since Lou Anna Simon stepped down in January 2018 amid the Larry Nassar scandal. Samuel Stanley Jr., a biomedical researcher who currently serves as Stony Brook University president, said he is ready to help the MSU community heal from the aftermath of Nassar's convictions for sexually assaulting hundreds of patients and students athletes. Stanley, who the board unanimously voted to hire, pledged to create a plan for diversity, inclusion and equity at the university.
