Udpa in, Engler out as Michigan State University interim president
Former Michigan governor John Engler took over as interim president at Michigan State University last year as the institution reeled from the fallout of the Larry Nassar sexual abuse scandal. However, as effective as Engler was at righting MSU's ship in some respects, he proved equally as capable of creating negative fallout of his own. Most notably, he created controversy with derogatory comments about some of Nassar's victims. His latest remarks proved to be his undoing as the MSU Board of Trustees asked for, and got, his resignation. Trustees then moved quickly to name Satish Udpa as MSU's new interim president. MORE

Embracing a quieter auto show in the final year of its winter run

The North American International Auto Show kicked off at Cobo Center this week in downtown Detroit. The event is in its final year as a January staple. From the looks of it, organizers might have waited a year too long to make the switch to warmer weather. (The auto show will next take place in June in 2020.) Somehow, the opulent structure has only six bedrooms. However, it may be possible to convert one of the home's 12 (!) bathrooms into a guest room with en-suite facilities. MORE

Too early to think about baseball season? We think not. Pitchers and catchers report to spring training in less than a month! So with the imminent return of the boys of summer, let's rank the American League cathedrals they call home. We'll give you two helpful hints as to which park tops our list: 1) It isn't Comerica Park. 2) Even a chowderhead should get this one. (Or would you pronounce it chow-dah-head?)

Pipe Magician helps ski resort resurrect popular half pipe

Nub's Nob ski resort in Harbor Springs (near the tip of The Mitten) hadn't built its wildly popular half pipe in a decade. It takes the right weather conditions, not to mention the right European machine parts, to construct the beloved attraction. Both came together this year to the delight of boarders and skiers alike. MORE
