National leadership response to unrest a 'bunker mentality' according to Whitmer

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist were in Detroit Thursday. The state they govern has been hurting collectively in every way possible for months. Most recently, people have hit the streets to protest the killing of George Floyd. Violence and extreme policing have followed. Protests and marches have happened daily in Detroit since Friday and Whitmer, who proposed police reform the day before, spoke to those gathered about the "tipping point" we're at in this country. She then called out "national leadership" for what she says has been a "bunker mentality" during this entire thing, or even worse, a fueling of the division in America and the fears of its people. MORE

On Thursday, Michigan State University announced that it is bringing back athletes for voluntary workouts beginning June 15. This comes more than two months after students were sent home due to the coronavirus pandemic and is happening despite the playing of fall sports being a total mystery. They do plan on testing. Restaurants face a whole new set of problems now that they CAN be open

Restaurants across Michigan - and the entire country - have just been gutted over the past couple months. Some closed and will never reopen. Some had to totally reorganize their operation to merely survive via takeout and curbside. And even now, with so many restaurants rejoicing that they are able to reopen, there are challenges to making it work in this brave new world. Everything about the way dining in worked, is being reinvented. We went to Lily's Seafood Grill & Brewery in Royal Oak and spoke with the owners there about how they're going to pull it off and ALL the changes they've had to make. TAKE A LOOK
