 Federal health officials recommend wearing a mask indoors, whether you’re vaccinated against COVID-19 or not, when community transmission reaches a “high” or “substantial” level, as determined by case and positive test rates. In Michigan, 81 out of 83 counties fall under that guidance as of Monday, Aug. 23. The state had about a dozen counties in the “moderate” or “low” risk levels last week, but that number continues to decline. By Monday, only Roscommon and Missaukee counties fell below the transmission threshold to recommend indoor masking for everyone. As a state, Michigan moved up to “high” transmission last week. After months of prep work, public hearings and a long wait for U.S. Census data, Michigan’s independent citizens redistricting commission has started drafting political district lines. The 13-member panel randomly selected last year to create Michigan’s next Congressional, state House and state Senate maps drew draft outlines of two Senate districts in Southeast and South Central Michigan. Initially, the commission had planned to tackle one map at a time — state Senate first, then state House, then Congressional. But last week, commissioners agreed after a recommendation from staff to scrap that plan and adopt a new, regional approach to drawing the maps.  The preseason doesn’t matter, which is refreshing news for the winless Detroit Lions. But it does matter a whole lot for individual players on the roster bubble, and it seems there has been some shifting of the winds in the preseason for Detroit. “There’s some guys that maybe were counted out that have a chance of now making this team -- and then there’s some ones that maybe everybody thought was going to make it and they’re not going to make it,” head coach Dan Campbell said after the loss in Pittsburgh on Saturday. “There’s a lot of that, man. I think it showed itself very clear today in a lot of different positions and players.” SEE OUR ROSTER PROJECTION  After missing for 70 years, the remains of Korean War Veteran Dale W. Wright were interred at the Great Lakes National Cemetery. Linda Stover, 75, Wright’s half-sister and last remaining direct relative along with Stover’s children, some grandchildren and great-grandchildren were present on Monday at the morning service to inter the remains. “It was such an emotional thing because I really didn’t believe they were ever going to find my brother in my lifetime, because I’m 75,” Stover explained.
