Northern Michigan restaurants and shops can reopen Friday, Gov. Whitmer says
 
Restaurants, bars and non-essential retail operations in the Upper Peninsula and much of the northern Lower Peninsula can reopen to the public Friday. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced the regional reopening plan Monday, explaining that businesses in the included counties will have to adhere to certain guidelines if they do reopen. There are capacity limits and worker safety measures included in the guidelines. Whitmer told residents from other areas of the state to "think long and hard" before traveling north, especially with the Memorial Day weekend coming up.  MORE

President Trump to visit Michigan Ford plant Thursday
 
President Donald Trump is scheduled to travel to Michigan for the second time this year. Trump plans to visit a Ford plant in Ypsilanti Township Thursday that shifted focus last month, manufacturing ventilators and personal protective equipment to help in the fight against the coronavirus. The president will deliver remarks during the visit, after a tour of operations at the Rawsonville manufacturing plant. MORE

Heavy rains fell across Michigan within the last few days. In Muskegon County, the excess water led to washed out streets and flooded basements. The area was already experiencing high lake and river levels, leaving "nowhere for the water to go," as one resident put it. The rain is also causing problems for those hoping to start boating for the season, with some docks now submerged. MORE
