There is something inherently fun about October. The leaves are even fun, changing colors before our eyes. And Halloween closes out this autumn month, presenting a great opportunity to celebrate all things silly and spooky. Have we seen the last of Pure Michigan? Maybe. Maybe not. Governor Gretchen Whitmer's line-item veto of Pure Michigan's entire budget this week was a surprise move to most. Vocal supporters of the tourism ad campaign that began in 2006 are aghast, while others have expressed approval of the veto. However, negotiations between legislators and Whitmer could breathe new funding life into vetoed items. MORE

FBI releases crime statistics for 2018
 
Muskegon Heights had Michigan's highest violent crime rate in 2018 among communities with at least 10,000 residents. Grosse Pointe Park had no violent crimes reported to local police last year. The two communities, located on either side of the state, were on opposite sides of the spectrum in FBI crime statistics that were released this week.
