Probe into officer's KKK material will help determine if fatal shooting will be reviewed

The news broke last week that a Muskegon police officer had Confederate flags and a framed KKK application on display at his home, which is on the market. The items were spotted during a tour of the home by a prospective buyer. Officer Charles Anderson has since been put on administrative leave while city officials look into the incident. The county prosecutor said the results of the internal investigation will help determine if he needs to review Anderson's involvement in a shooting death in 2009. MORE

hat
We don't know what it is. But Michigan International Speedway just isn't a great place to race for Michigan-born drivers. Rochester Hills native Brad Keselowski looked poised to become the first Michigan driver to win a NASCAR Cup Series race at MIS. He started on the pole position. He then proceeded to lead the most laps. But then a flat tire, and then some fueling issues were too much to overcome. At least the eventual winner had some love to extend to the Detroit Tigers. MORE

Sand sculpture contest highlights another fine day at the beach

Nothing quite rivals a laid-back day at the beach during a pristine Michigan summer day: A dip in the refreshing water, the vast expanse of blue before you, the occasional seagull trying to steal your snacks. Then there's playing in the sugar sand of a West Michigan beach. The pros took their turn "playing" during the 38th annual Grand Haven Sand Sculpture Contest. MORE
