Michigan man at U.S. Capitol attack gets 5-year prison sentence |
Anthony Robert Williams of Southgate has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for his actions in the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a news release.
What's happened so far: The five-year sentence is by far the longest any of those arrested from Michigan has received so far. Sixteen people from Michigan have been arrested in total for their alleged involvement in the Jan. 6 attack. Ten of them have either pleaded guilty for been found guilty by a jury. Williams marks the seventh to be sentenced.

LGBTQ people don’t see tobacco use as most imminent threat, but it’s a smoldering issue |
A great threat: For many in the LGBTQ community, there seems to be larger, more pressing issues, and, in some cases, there are. Homelessness. Mental health crises. Suicidality. But tobacco use, much more likely among LGBTQ people than other groups, is a smoldering health threat.
The numbers: A survey, funded by a grant through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, found 26% use a form of tobacco and 28% have in the past. In comparison, 18.4% of adults and 23% of high school students in Michigan smoked, according to 2020 reports revised this year. But first: To tackle these high smoking rates among the LGBTQ community, societal issues must be addressed such as discrimination, violence and suicidality. |
