Late last week, MLive Chief Meteorologist Mark Torregrossa explained that some areas of Michigan were heading into drought. The state could really use some rain. Some need it more than others, but everyone would be served well with a wet day or two.

Two ballot initiatives, one for abortion rights and one for voting rights, submit huge signature totals.

Reproductive freedom for all: The abortion-rights petition collected 753,759 signatures from every county in the state to qualify for the Nov. 8 ballot, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan announced Monday.

Promote the vote 2022: The initiative would mandate nine days of early in-person voting (Michigan currently has none) and prohibit harassment while voting, among other measures. The group submitted 669,972 signatures on Monday, many more than the 425,059 required.

Family of four found dead:Police responded to a residence in Roscommon County early Sunday morning, where they found four residents of the home dead in an apparent murder-suicide.

Kalamazoo officer paralyzed in crash: Police are awaiting toxicology results on a man who is believed to have been under the influence when his vehicle struck a Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer on the officer’s way to work, rendering the officer paralyzed from the waist down.

Update on Detroit police killing: Authorities say a gun used to kill a Detroit police officer last week was purchased illegally.

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, now a Michigan resident, visits Grand Rapids.

'We're here because of family:' During a visit to Grand Rapids on Monday, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg discussed the recent announcement that he had moved to Traverse City with his husband and their two kids.

Political ambitions in Michigan? "When it comes to the professional side, I’ve got more than enough to keep all of my energies occupied with the work of the transportation department, and I’m proud to be doing it," Buttigieg said.

Airport visit:Buttigieg was in Grand Rapids to highlight an $8.68 million federal grant that will help fund Gerald R. Ford International Airport’s concourse expansion.

The football world reacts to the death of ex-Michigan, Detroit Lions coach Gary Moeller.

"The football world lost a great man:" The football world is mourning after longtime Michigan football coach Gary Moeller died Monday at age 81. “Coach Moeller cared for his players and his teams and was devoted to the University of Michigan," Jim Harbaugh said in a statement.

Two-time Big Ten coach of the year: Moeller was best known for his two-decade run at Michigan, where he climbed the ranks under Bo Schembechler — from position coach to coordinator to head coach, a position he held from 1990 to 1994.

A memory of Moeller shared on Twitter: "Jim Scarcelli told us Gary Moeller would end every defensive practice with a drill to run back a turnover and celebrate. If you didn’t celebrate with your teammates hard enough everyone had to run it again."

A special disc golf experience: Disc golf is a great activity for enjoying nature on a nice day. But this course is extra special. Boyne Mountain's Cold Springs frisbee golf course starts with a chairlift ride to the top of a ski hill. From there, you will play your way back down to the bottom.
