Parchment continues flushing out water system as Flint lead test produces excellent results
Water distribution sites have become an all too common scene in Michigan: From the lead-infused Flint water crisis to the PFAS concerns just surfacing. Parchment residents are the latest Michiganders forced to stop using their tap water at home and turn to bottled water for their consumption and cooking needs. The city of Parchment is flushing out its water system, and neighboring Kalamazoo plans to extend its water system to Parchment residents. No timeline has been given for how long that work will take. However, not all Michigan water news is bad this week. All tests of filtered water in Flint schools were below the federal threshold for lead. That's 420 filtered water samples. We will drink to that! MORE

See which Michigan ballot proposal has the most cash behind it so far

Michigan voters likely will be asked to weigh in on five ballot proposals come Nov. 8. We find it is fascinating to see where the money to support ballot proposals comes from. Currently, the proposal to change how redistricting is handled in the state has the most funds. The proposal that has raised the most money, so far, deals with expanding absentee voting. MORE

Most of Michigan in some stage of drought

Drought this summer is a growing concern in Michigan. (See what we did there?) Conditions here aren't nearly as bad as some places west of the Mississippi River - see the Four Corners region in the Southwest. However, the Thumb, Alpena and Lansing are among the areas in Michigan nearing severe drought levels. Also, a good portion of lower Michigan is under a high fire danger warning. MORE

Will the Tigers make any deals before trade deadline?

With Alan Trammell and Jack Morris firmly enshrined into the MLB Hall of Fame, we can turn our attention to this year's Detroit Tigers. Unsurprisingly, the team isn't in contention this season. However, it is a bit surprising how quiet the Tigers have been with the 12:01 a.m. Wednesday trade deadline fast approaching. Injuries to potential trade chips probably haven't helped GM Al Avila swing a deal. Then again, maybe Avila is asking too much for the handful of Detroit players other teams might find interesting. MORE
