Polar vortex plunges Michigan into coldest day since 1994

Michigan just experienced its coldest day in 25 years. Temperatures plunged across the state on Wednesday, with dangerous cold amplified by wind chills so low that the window for frostbite was reduced to mere minutes. Michigan was virtually shut down yet again as government offices, schools, universities, and businesses closed their doors. Even the U.S. Postal Service, famed for its letter-carriers' perceived imperviousness to the elements, suspended delivery through Thursday in a number of Michigan zip codes. It was so cold, salt couldn't be used on roads. The chill was expected to persist until late week, but a significant warm-up is on the horizon this weekend. Until then, though, West Michigan and parts of Mid-Michigan can look forward to continue being buried by lake effect snow. MORE

Why Tom Izzo is inviting ESPN to MSU after an acrimonious year

A year ago, ESPN published a damning report detailing previously unreported physical and sexual assault claims at Michigan State. Now, Izzo is preparing to welcome ESPN College Gameday to campus. The decision prompted fans to question Izzo's motives, given his prior rebuke of ESPN's reporting. "Forgiving and forgetting and dealing with things is part of life," Izzo said in response. MORE
