Endangered piping plovers flourish under tribe’s watch on remote Lake Michigan island |
Coming back: It’s been a record year for Great Lakes piping plovers, a species first federally listed as endangered in 1985. This year scientists counted 80 unique breeding pairs across all five Great Lakes and monitored 85 nests. That’s eight more pairs than last year and the most since the species was first added to the federal Endangered Species List. Stargazing: Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore will host a series of "Night Sky Navigator" events for stargazing enthusiasts in the coming weeks, with programming for educators, students and the public. In Grand Blanc: One of the most popular food truck festivals in Genesee County will gather one last Friday to close out the 2023 summer series this week. Here’s what you’ll find to eat. |
