PFAS update: Huron River to get filters, Parchment to get willing corporate cooperation
Monday saw some positive progress on two of Michigan's PFAS hot zones - the Huron River and the city of Parchment. First, the Metro Detroit auto supplier traced to the alarmingly high PFAS recordings in the Huron River will install temporary filters for its water discharge. The work is scheduled for Friday. Even better, a more permanent solution is expected by the end of the year. Second, the company formerly associated with a paper manufacturing plant in Parchment is offering voluntary aid in tracking down sources of high PFAS recordings in the small community north of Kalamazoo. MORE

Recreational marijuana could bring a pot of tax cash to Michigan

The recreational marijuana debate in Michigan is puffing along as those for and against the ballot measure to make it legal attempt to galvanize support ahead of November's election. On Monday, a pro-legalization group disclosed updated tax revenue estimates if the measure is approved. Per the report, once the market matures, annual revenue could hover around $130M per year. (An initial estimate had revenue closer to $200M a year.) On the other side, a nonprofit group that opposes the measure will host a town hall meeting in Jackson to discuss potential dangers of recreational marijuana. MORE

Big Ten rankings reflect lack of style points for both U-M, MSU
hat
Michigan and Michigan State both won Saturday. And while a win is a win, how you win matters almost as much in this age of the College Football Playoff. Neither the Wolverines nor Spartans looked the part of playoff contenders, and our latest B1G rankings reflect it. U-M remained a distant, and somewhat shaky, third. MSU dropped a spot after a sluggish showing against a down (read: really bad) Central Michigan squad. MORE
