For the fourth time, protesters gather at Michigan Capitol to oppose stay-at-home order
 
There were some noteworthy sights at yesterday's protest at the Michigan Capitol: waterfowl in a red wagon, someone dressed up as Pikachu carrying what appeared to be a semi-automatic rifle and an unclothed brunette Barbie hanging from a tiny noose. The last of those caused a brief skirmish between protesters who disagreed on whether it was appropriate rally paraphernalia. Thursday's protest was the fourth of its kind, centered around showing opposition to Michigan's stay-at-home order. Attendance was down from the previous rallies, potentially due to inclement weather. MORE

Gov. Whitmer hopes to allow small gatherings in Michigan after May 28
 
During a live discussion with MLive Thursday, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said she hopes Michigan residents will be able to gather in small groups by the end of the month. What constitutes a small gathering? It would include 10 people or fewer, Whitmer explained. And while she said she hopes that can happen after May 28, the governor made no promises, saying she will be looking at the COVID-19 numbers for the next week before making a decision. MORE

According to Mackinac Island officials, the popular Michigan vacation destination is in for a tourism season unlike any they've seen before. It's unclear exactly what this summer will look like on the island, but those officials are already laying out some guidelines while the stay-at-home order is still in place. Once visitors can arrive, they will meet new sanitation standards and social distancing. That last part might be the most surreal on the oft-crowded island. MORE
