In today's newsletter, Michigan gas prices jump up, the Detroit Lions are a joke again and a trial in the Flint Family Dollar homicide begins.

What's the deal with Tuesdays?

It seems like each day of the week has an identity, except for Tuesday. Monday is the day everyone loves to hate. Wednesday is the middle of the work week ("hump day," if you will). Thursday has its own fun identity (and a lot of party opportunities if you are a college student). Friday is the day we all wait for. And the weekend? Well, that's pinnacle.

So since there is nothing special about Tuesday, I feel like making it special with some fun stories to read. Let's make this day great! Here's a look at how you can see some super bright meteors this month. We also have some cool fall travel deals to share. And if you are big on spooky season, you will be happy to find this list of haunted houses to visit in mid-Michigan.

QAnon, Christianity and Trump converge in Michigan.

Dramatic music and lots of pointing fingers: At recent events, including in Michigan, former President Donald Trump and his rallygoers have used symbols of the QAnon conspiracy movement. Two years after leaving office, the former president, QAnon and a evangelical Christianity are increasingly linked, experts say.

One expert's input: The ex-president flirted with the QAnon conspiracy when he was in office, but Trump has now “fully embraced it,” said Mia Bloom, a Georgia State University professor who co-wrote a book on QAnon last year.

MAGA regalia:For some Trump supporters, the "Make America Great Again" movement is part of a lifestyle.

Michigan gas prices jump to $4.35, but expert predicts prices will 'inch down.'

Prices are up at the pump: Gas prices in Michigan are up 50 cents in the past month, according to AAA, as the state is averaging $4.35 per gallon on Monday. That’s up 19 cents in the past week, while nationwide gas prices have only risen 12 cents in that timeframe.

An expert says they should improve: "Some of the refinery snags that have caused prices to surge in the West and Great Lakes appear to be improving, with prices in those two regions likely to inch down," wrote GasBuddy Head of Petroleum Analysis Patrick De Haan in a newsletter.

While we are on the subject of money: There appears to be a silver lining when it comes to interest rates. For savers, the rates could grow money faster.

The Detroit Lions are a joke once again. Dan Campbell needs to find answers, fast.

A terrible game for the Lions: The Detroit Lions went to Foxborough and were just completely stomped by the Patriots on Sunday. "It’s just about as bad as it gets," head coach Dan Campbell said. "I believe we hit rock bottom."

Lions grades: Sunday was a bad day for just about everyone playing and coaching for the Lions, except for a decent showing by special teams. We have the rundown of exactly how bad this loss was, broken down by positions.

How about some good football news?If you live in Michigan, there are many depressing aspects of this football season. The Lions and the Spartans are just painful to watch. But if you are a Wolverines fan, you have probably been doing quite a bit of cheering. After all, they have one of the nation's best defenses right now.

About 80% of Michigan teens do not get adequate sleep, and it's hurting their health.

Lacking sleep:Teenagers should get eight to 10 hours of sleep, but about 78% of high school students reported they did not get eight or more hours on an average school night, according to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System. In Michigan, the rate was greater – 82.4% in 2019.

It's not fine: The American Academy of Pediatrics has called insufficient sleep a “chronic problem worldwide” and the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine recognize it as a serious health risk among adolescents.

Speaking of high school students: One in 7 high school students admit to e-cigarette use, a study has found.

The death of a security guard: Jury selection is set to begin this week in the case of four people charged in the death of 43-year-old Calvin Munerlyn, a Family Dollar security guard who died following an argument with customers over the store’s policy requiring face masks at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
