March 24, 2022 From studios to two-bedrooms renters can’t catch a break as prices continue to increase. February was the seventh straight month where rent price increases were in the double digits across the country, according to Realtor.com’s latest report. The median rent for studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units are all at record highs, according to Realtor.com data. Every square foot is costing more. Two-bedroom units are seeing the largest increase in rents over last year, with the median rent at $2,002 nationally. That’s an increase of 16.2% or $278. We have a look at where Michigan stands, compared to other states. As a result of these experiences, black and brown children and their families are at greater risk for negative health, social and economic effects. To tackle these racial disparities head-on, Michigan’s Child Welfare Improvement Task Force made recommendations to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services for preventing and eliminating systemic racism in the state’s child protection system. The Michigan Climate Action Network this week released a new report on communities leading on climate change efforts across the state. A&E’s series, “I Survived a Serial Killer,” takes a close look at the case of Jeffrey Willis, specifically his attempt to abduct Madison Nygard in 2016. Nygard, a 16-year-old at the time, made a harrowing escape and eventually testified in a trial against Willis. Nygard didn’t know it at the time, but Willis had already killed two women, Jessica Heeringa and Rebekah Bletsch.
