Whitmer, Schuette clash at final debate
There was no shortage of barbs and zingers as Democrat Gretchen Whitmer and Republican Bill Schuette clashed in the second and final gubernatorial debate Wednesday night in Detroit. Among the topics covered were the years-old Unemployment Insurance Agency scandal and Michigan's auto insurance rates. Although both candidates found common ground in rooting out auto insurance fraud, Schuette took the chance to needle Whitmer as being on "the Big Insurance side." Whitmer accused Schuette of doing nothing to crack down on fraud during his time as attorney general. Voters head to the polls in a little under two weeks to decide which candidate will be the next governor.

What Lions' trade for defensive lineman means going forward
hat
Well, well! The Detroit Lions finally addressed one of their glaring needs on the defensive line in a big way with a Tuesday trade for New York Giants defensive tackle Damon Harrison. (Doesn't it seem like ages ago since this team started 0-2? And an ugly 0-2 at that!) Kyle Meinke tackles what this means for the team in his weekly "5 Things to Watch" post. Nate Atkins reminds us that while getting Harrison for a fifth round draft pick is a steal, money is a big part of the deal. MORE

This Michigan restaurant was once filled with cabbage

Not that there is anything wrong with cabbage, but we are so happy the Cabbage Shed is no longer filled with its namesake leafy green. If it were, we wouldn't get to hang out on the waterfront deck, chow down on the delicious burger and happily sip the area's largest collection of Irish whiskey. Yeah, if you like a good time, the Cabbage Shed in Elberta is a place to visit. It has been a general store, a warehouse and then, of course, a storage spot for lots of cabbage. When you head to the northwest Lower Peninsula to check it out, you'll also want to explore nearby Frankfort. It's a gem, just like the Cabbage Shed. MORE
