Here's what you should know for Halloween, trick-or-treating during a pandemic So, Halloween might feel a little strange this year. And we don't mean in a spooky way. It's anticipated that the number of kids out trick-or-treating this year will be down drastically. After all, experts are recommending against the typical door-to-door tradition, saying it could help spread COVID-19. Oh, and if you had some huge Halloween party (or wedding) planned, new gathering limits put into place by the state yesterday might put a damper on your to-do. It's the subject of a new lawsuit brought by the Resurrection School, filed against Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Director Robert Gordon over his mandate requiring mask wearing in schools all day because of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Unfortunately, a mask shields our humanity. And because God created us in His image, we are masking that image," the plaintiffs claim in the lawsuit. Two of the seven seats on the Michigan Supreme Court are up for election. With a current 4-3 split that favors Republicans, Democrats are trying to flip the majority their way and they are using large sums of money in an attempt to do just that. And, yes, the judge positions are on the nonpartisan section of the ballot, but the nominees are picked by the parties. Residents with flooded homes worked to repair the damage and workers were busy trying to fix destroyed roadways and bridges. Now, another phase of cleanup has begun. Crews are working to remove trashed pontoon boats, sunken canoes, lawn furniture, propane tanks, broken docks and many tree pieces from the Sanford Dam.
