MLive's Ed Pevos has done it again. I always say, if you want to have some fun in Michigan, follow Ed's work. He is always writing about something exciting and entertaining. This time, he has focused on the best holiday lighting displays and seasonal events in Southeast Michigan.
Ed's guide highlights 19 magical stops for optimal holiday enjoyment. He labels them as "epic" and I totally believe him. This guy knows his stuff. Like the Bazillions Lights Home. I mean, with that name, could it be anything less than epic? And the same goes for interactive sensory light show at Glenlore Trails. Those are just two of the 19 items on Ed's list.
This week, Ed also kept us all informed as "The Voice" picked a winner. While he didn't come out on top, Michigan's Brayden Lape is No. 1 in our hearts. Good job, Brayden. |

A failed theme park nearly turned Ypsilanti farmland into lunar colonies. |
Space World:In the late 1970s, a Detroit-area aeronautical engineer who helped make NASA’s Apollo program possible dreamed up an amusement park called Space World. He hoped to build it on what was then farmland in Ypsilanti Township. He eventually broke ground on the park in nearby Huron Township, but down-to-earth troubles scrubbed the project. Revenge travel filled up Michigan hotels. How long will pent up demand last? |
An influx of travelers: This year travel and hospitality tried to find its footing as “revenge travel” pushed demand beyond pre-pandemic numbers. Looking into a new year, Michigan hotels are still assessing where that leaves them as the country downgrades its cabin fever. Siren Hotel manager Mary Beth Bennett said: "We’re seeing a lot of people coming to cities like Detroit and places like Michigan that might not have been on their radar before. But they’re really coming in looking for an authentic experience."

Does Bay City have too many bridges? Four bridges serve the city's ever-shrinking population. |
An overabundance of bridges? Even if you don't live in Bay City, there's a good chance you have heard about the city's bridges. They are a way of life for residents. But the population of the area has declined since the last of the four bridges opened in the 1980s. Are there too many bridges?
Tolls coming soon: After being closed for almost a year, the Liberty Bridge will reopen on Dec. 22. And when it does, some travelers will have to pay $2 a pop to cross it. The bridge serves as a key connection between the Midland Street Business District and downtown Bay City.
