See preservation effort at historic U.P. lodge   A historic Upper Peninsula lodge is looking might spiffy these days. Birch Lodge in Trout Lake has undergone a preservation and remodeling effort, and the results are stunning. One update of note is the restoration of its 100-foot-long porch. The inn, which opened in 1912, is about 30 minutes north of St. Ignace. MORE
