Michigan declares state of emergency for Parchment PFAS contamination
Late last week, residents of the small Kalamazoo County city of Parchment were told to stop consuming their tap water. Results from tests of the city's municipal water system came back showing PFAS levels of more than 20 times the EPA lifetime health advisory. As water distribution continues to provide clean drinking water to the 3,000-plus residents connected to the contaminated water supply, the state of Michigan declared a state of emergency in Parchment. As local workers attempt to flush the chemicals from the Parchment system and await subsequent testing, the declaration aims to help residents receive resources as they live without usable tap water. MORE

Six killed in hotel fire described as 'loving and caring family'

A 26-year-old woman and five children tragically died Saturday in a fire at a Benton Harbor motel. While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, officials said it was likely accidental. Police are looking into whether smoke detectors at the motel were operational when the fire started. Other residents of the Cosmo Extended Stay Living Motel who were displaced by the fire are being housed at a local middle school. MORE

Coach says soccer game at Michigan Stadium not worth the cost

While the 101,254 soccer fans who attended this weekend's match-up between Liverpool FC and Manchester United seemed to have a great time, one of the coaches said their money was not well spent. Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho said the price for fans to attend the game at the Big House simply was too high for what they were getting. "I wouldn't pay to see these teams," Mourinho said. The cheapest tickets to the game were $60 and attendees also faced parking prices between $40 and $150 per vehicle. His chief complaint? Many of the top players were not in attendance as they recovered from the World Cup. MORE
