Bill creating statewide mental health hotline in Michigan signed into law
 
A bill to create a 24/7 mental health crisis and access line was signed into law by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer Monday. Under the law, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is authorized to oversee a hotline that would allow operators to connect callers with local mental health resources, such as psychiatric and substance abuse services. Whitmer's singing of the bill came the same day a law went into effect that solidifies the role of licensed professional counselors to treat and diagnose patients in Michigan. MORE

As the 2020 elections approach, Democrats are pouring money into Michigan, along with other states considered vital to taking the White House in November. The Democratic National Committee announced millions of dollars of investment into six swing states, where they are funding organizer positions and opening field offices.
