Suspected CMU shooter found incompetent to stand trial for murder of parents
James Davis is the main suspect in the shooting death of his parents last month in his Central Michigan University dorm room. However, his court-appointed attorney said the 19-year-old was found mentally incompetent to stand trial. Davis will undergo treatment in an attempt to help him gain competency. Davis' parents were in Mount Pleasant helping him move out for spring break, when he's accused of going to the family car, taking out his father's gun and shooting his parents. Police have yet to disclose a suspected motive in the double slaying. Nassar's MSU co-workers stood by him, but still had a hand in bringing him down

Dr. Larry Nassar was described as a 'good guy' by his former Michigan State University colleagues. But as they defended him against sexual misconduct allegations, they unintentionally helped build a case against him by telling police investigators that treatments involving genitals require the use of gloves, a chaperone in the room and explicit patient consent. MLive is taking part in a national journalism project out to prove Americans can have civil and fruitful discussions of emotionally charged and divisive issues. The "other side" doesn't have to be scary or evil, people. You just have to be willing to listen. MORE

Butterflies abound in Michigan, if you go to the right house

It's butterfly season in Michigan, though you wouldn't know it to look outside. Thankfully, indoor butterfly displays are rather abundant in the state. Dow Gardens in Midland and Frederik Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids are favorite destinations, but they certainly aren't alone. Kids love these displays, and insect enthusiasts of all ages can get a thrill when beautiful, winged creatures favor them by landing on their outstretched finger. MORE
