2018 will be remembered as the year Michigan legalized marijuana, PFAS trended on Google, Gretchen Whitmer was elected governor and Larry Nassar became a national story. We compiled a list of 18 numbers that helped define the news year in Michigan. For example:
3 -- The number of former Michigan State University employees criminally charged in the Nassar case, including former MSU president Lou Anna Simon.
18 -- The number of water systems in Michigan found to be discharging excessive levels of toxic PFAS chemicals.
56 -- The percentage of participating Michigan voters that cast ballots in favor of legalizing marijuana.

Offensive struggles sink Lions' Jim Bob Cooter, MSU in Redbox Bowl

The Detroit Lions gave Jim Bob Cooter every chance to succeed as the head honcho of the offense. He didn't succeed, and now the Lions are in the market for a new offensive coordinator. As for Michigan State, coach Mark Dantonio has yet to announce any changes to his coaching staff. Spartan fans certainly are ready for something to change. Banished word list for 2019 includes 'collusion' and 'ghosting'
 
Lake Superior State University released its 44th annual List of Words Banished from the Queen's English for Mis-use, Over-use and General Uselessness. The tongue-in-cheek list includes phrases such as "in the books," "wrap my head around" and "thought leader." Words on the list include "optics," "eschew" and "ghosting." This year, 18 words and phrases made the list. MORE
