 The average Michigan home sale was nearly $25,000 higher in 2020 compared to 2019 as the pandemic spurred a buzzing real estate market. Almost every corner of Michigan followed the trend, from Metro Detroit to the Upper Peninsula. But many of the hottest markets were in northern Michigan. “That shows where people want to be,” said E’toile O’Rear-Libbett, president of Michigan Realtors. “They want land, they want wide-open spaces. We spent a Michigan’s Best Day in downtown Northville and Novi, and found all sorts of fun things to do, and delicious things to eat and drink. If you are trying to get a good rain on a farm field, garden or landscape plants, you probably won’t be really pleased. Now I will admit the forecast is dry. With the heat and higher humidity coming in the second half of the week, we will probably see a few more isolated patches of rain than what models depict now.  It’s been fairly well-documented that the mythical 40-game mark is an arbitrary and not particularly useful tool for evaluating a season or predicting what will happen in the future. But with roughly 25 percent of the season in the books, it’s still not a bad time to take stock and see where things stand. Let’s start with the worrisome: The Tigers, currently 14-26, are on pace for a 57-105 record this year. That would be bad, very likely worst in all of baseball, but it would not be historically bad like the 2003 and 2019 seasons. So, umm, I guess that last part is good? MORE  Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has laid a clear path for Michigan to eliminate its COVID-19 health order and associated restrictions: Get 70% of the population 16 or older to have at least one vaccine shot. But simultaneously, the state is working through a process to make permanent its workplace COVID-19 rules, enforced through the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The current temporary MIOSHA workplace rules expire Oct. 14 and cannot be extended again, per state law. Republicans and business leaders are unhappy with the prospect of permanent rules.
