A labor of love: The growing success of a Michigan lavender farm |
Backstory: Victor and Vickie Bennett wanted to introduce the therapeutic spa lifestyle – which is often associated with lavender products – to everyday people. They bought a corn field near Caledonia by Green Lake in 2015, planted lavender, and created the Lavender Life Company in the basement of their home. Heart and soul: Lavender Life Company is now one of the largest lavender farms in West Michigan and sells a variety of lavender products – from cheesecakes to coffees. The company has also donated more than 77,000 lavender-stuffed animals to kids in foster care. More in public interest: Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is seeking a major disaster declaration to help activate federal aid for communities hit by spring flooding in the Upper Peninsula. |
