Michigan's Asian Americans are ready to be heard
Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders comprise about 2 percent of Michigan's electorate. However, Asians are a growing voting bloc here and across the nation. The number of eligible Asian American Pacific Islander voters in Michigan increased 31 percent from 2012-2016. And the Asian population in America is projected to more than double in the next few decades, from 15.9 million in 2012 to 34.4 million in 2060. Nobody knows what effect these increases will have on elections. But Republicans and Democrats alike certainly are taking note of this mostly untapped bloc. MLive reporter John Counts takes a look at Michigan's growing Asian community, and the role it plays in today's political landscape. MORE

On the road again: A homeless family's search for a permanent home

Carrie Gore-Dalton and her two sons - ages 5 and 20 - were told social workers would find them emergency housing. At the time, Gore-Dalton and her boys were living in a homeless encampment in a downtown Kalamazoo park. And just like that, a year of trying to make a new life for the family in Michigan was over. MORE

The Detroit Tigers season is done, but the misery might not be over
hat
The picture with this story is from a happier time, back in May when the Detroit Tigers weren't ready to admit they were as bad a team as they would end up to be. We don't mean to pile on, but as baseball fans across the country settle in to what looks to be a fantastic postseason, our Tigers were never really in the playoff discussion. Beat reporter Evan Woodbery suggests next year probably won't play out any differently. It might even be worse (record wise). Oh, well. At the end of any season, only one team is a winner. MORE
