Michigan's Best BBQ search kicks off at MLive.com, send in your nominations
MLive entertainment reporter John Gonzalez has been searching out the best Michigan has to offer as part of our Michigan's Best series since 2012. He started with a simple quest: Find the best Coney dog in the state. It was a huge hit. It led to more searches. It led to Amy Sherman joining the Michigan's Best crew. We are now more than two dozen searches deep. Our next search is an oldie but a goodie: Michigan's Best BBQ. This was one of our first searches, and we can't wait to get back out there to sample all the tasty new BBQ treats. We are taking nominations until noon, Monday, Sept. 10. So send us your favorites, and then vote for them when the polls go up next week. MORE

Minimum wage hike, paid sick leave won't be on Michigan ballot

The Michigan House and Senate voted Wednesday in favor of approving the minimum wage hike and paid sick leave initiatives. The move takes the petitions off the November ballot, and squarely under the direction of the Republican-controlled legislature. While the measures are now law, they do not go into effect until March, leaving plenty of time for amending the initiatives, if lawmakers so choose. MORE

Michigan's high schools with the highest average SAT scores in 2018

For the third year in a row, all Michigan juniors took the SAT. And while overall scores dipped slightly in 2018 (from 1007.6 last year to 1000.1), there are plenty of schools in Michigan producing results. In fact, we've compiled a list of the 60 top-performing high schools from data released last week by the Michigan Department of Education. We also included an online database to search the scores of any public high school.

Our Detroit Lions reporter has aged like a fine cheddar during his years churning the Lions beat. So, for those of you who just can't wait for the Lions' season opener Monday, Kyle whipped up a lovely hors d'oeuvres platter filled with the predicted results of every game of 2018. (As a side note, take that Green Bay Packers fans. You cheeseheads don't get to have all the cheesy fun.) MORE
