Aretha Franklin passed away Thursday morning at the age of 76 at her Detroit home surrounded by family. Franklin was a voice of a generation, a supremely gifted entertainer and a trailblazer for civil rights. Michigan to require people on food assistance to work
 
It has been 16 years since Michigan last required able-bodied citizens who receive food assistance to prove they are working. Starting Oct. 1, they will have to do so or risk losing those benefits. Work requirements are a part of the federal Supplementary Nutrition Assistance Program. However, Michigan was exempt from those requirements starting in 2002 because of its high unemployment rate. MORE
