Let's dive into Michigan's Best Local Eats! |
I moved to Grand Rapids over a year ago and our Michigan's Best Local Eats series writers still constantly find something new for me to try, like Fratelli’s Kitchen and Bar. In Bay City, there's plenty to try with 90 flavors of ice cream at The Farm at Apple Acres. Seafood boils and karaoke is offered at a new Flint-area restaurant, 168 Crab and Karaoke. Eat old-fashioned doughnuts from the Dirt Road Donuts food truck based out of Concord. Dexter Bakery is a community staple with a stellar apple fritter. Greekshore in Muskegon aims "to transport your taste buds to Greece." |

Why Michigan could lose thousands of affordable housing units over a decade |
Thinking of the future: A major funding stream has added roughly 90,000 affordable housing units to Michigan, but the program isn’t permanent – meaning rents restrictions could evaporate for thousands of units over the next decade. An update: This video shows how a fighter jet crashed at the Yankee Air Museum’s Thunder Over Michigan air show on Sunday. In public interest: It wasn’t the only newspaper to say the president had a drinking problem, but it was the one that paid the price. Read about the time a former president sued a Michigan newspaper and won. |

Jim Harbaugh vs. NCAA: Making sense of Michigan coach’s suspension saga |
The drama surrounding Jim Harbaugh and the NCAA heated up over the weekend, when the governing body for collegiate athletics reportedly rejected a proposed four-game suspension for the Michigan football coach. Surprising : It was a head-turning move because Harbaugh was expected to have his suspension approved by the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions. The NCAA prefers not to have cases such as these drag out. For the Spartans : These are Mel Tucker’s takeaways from Michigan State’s first scrimmage and some next steps.

One of the boldest, most original, must-see concerts ever is in Michigan this week |
In the crowd: One of the most must-see events ever is coming to Michigan this week as P!NK brings her stadium tour to Comerica Park in Detroit. More fun: The Lost Lake Trail at Ludington State Park is its own reward, winding through picturesque woods around a little lake and occasionally offering panoramic views with water on both sides. Gotta see it: The Frankmobile, formerly known as the Wienermobile, is coming to West Michigan Aug. 21 through Aug. 27. |
