October 1, 2021 As campaign season gets underway in Michigan, a dozen Republicans so far have filed paperwork in the Republican primary and -- if it goes how they’d like it to -- replace Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. There are still a few steps to go through before any of the contenders are officially on the 2022 ballot. They’ll need to collect signatures on nominating petitions and turn those in to the Secretary of State’s office. Those who complete that step will compete in the August 2022 primary, and the winner of that race will go on to face the Democratic candidate -- presumably Whitmer, who has no challengers -- in the November 2022 election. MLive caught up with the majority of candidates at the Michigan Republican Leadership Conference last weekend, and spoke with others via phone, asking a standardized set of questions. When that authority is abused, “catastrophe happens,” he said. This insight informs two bipartisan bills spearheaded by a pair state lawmakers. Julian found an ancient mastodon tooth during a hike with his family at Dinosaur Hill Nature Preserve in Rochester Hills. UM museum scientists verified its authenticity, and Julian will donate it to the museum to ensure its preservation. Julian is probably the first person to touch the tooth in 12,000 years, said Adam Rountrey, the paleontology museum’s research museum collection manager.
