Detroit auto show: Finalists announced for North American vehicles of the year
Last week's Los Angeles auto show featured a number of auto-related announcements. Jeep unveiled its plans to get back into the truck game. Toyota showed off its new AWD Prius. But automakers continue to save some of their biggest announcements for the Motor City and the North American International Auto Show. Most notably, winners of the North American vehicles of the year will be revealed in Janurary at the Detroit auto show at Cobo Center. Paid sick time supporters vow 2020 petition drive if legislators tweak law
 
Michigan lawmakers in September adopted a measure to make paid sick time mandatory in the state rather than let it go before voters on Nov. 6. The calculated move allowed state legislators the opportunity to modify the parameters of the new law before it went into effect. Supporters of mandatory paid sick time are concerned that the proposed changes fly in the face of their original intent, and are gearing up to get the issue on the 2020 ballot. MORE

Tributes pour in for Leelanau wine pioneer
 
Leelanau Country wasn't always the world-class, grape-growing Mecca it is today. It used to just be a beautiful slice of northern Michigan. (Which is pretty special in and of itself.) Bernie Rink started with a one-acre test plot for wine grapes. He then planted 15 acres of grapevine, opened Boskydel Vineyard and helped pioneer the Leelanau wine industry. Rink died Nov. 29 at 92. Several Michigan wineries have posted tributes to Rink and his legacy, which was pretty special.
