Michigan is the only state with a full time legislature that doesn't require public officials to disclose basic financial information. This lack of transparency helped Michigan rank dead last in a recent state integrity investigation. Disclosures help uncover potential conflicts of interest. Without them, Michigan residents only have a politician's word to go by. This month, we are taking a deeper look into the topic with a series of articles. We also created our own financial disclosure form and sent it to elected state officials. We'll compile their responses in a public database.
