Hazing, secrecy leave University of Michigan fraternities in turmoil
The University of Michigan's fraternity and sorority system began in 1845 with the establishment of the first fraternity. It was created to foster a sense of community, camaraderie and public service. Unfortunately, today's Greek Life system has been marred by numerous claims of sexual assault, hazing and binge drinking. And a sense of secrecy runs through it all. As such, misconduct claims rarely are punished. U-M this year took major steps to try to curtail problematic fraternity behavior. But the university and Greek Life organizers are at odds with how to address these issues. MORE

What Michigan residents think about legalizing marijuana

We took to the streets this summer to ask Michigan residents what they thought about the proposal to legalize recreational marijuana in the state. The results were understandably mixed. Some didn't want to talk for fear of repercussions at work, while others openly voiced their support. Many said regulation and enforcement of laws were top priorities. Interestingly, the views expressed were similar to what we heard during a recent trip to Oregon where recreational pot has been legal since 2015. MORE

Enbridge would pay for new Line 5 tunnel under agreement

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality announced Wednesday that Enbridge Energy and Governor Rick Snyder agreed to a proposal regarding the controversial Line 5 pipeline. The agreement would have Enbridge pay for and build a utility tunnel about 100 feet beneath the Straits of Mackinac. However, this is far from a done deal. As the DEQ touted the agreement as a win-win, Enbridge officials said the agreement is a "commitment to explore" the tunnel option. MORE

Everything you need to know before the Red  Wings 2018 opener
hat
The Detroit Red Wings drop the puck on the regular season tonight at Little Caesars Arena. The franchise has missed the playoffs the past two seasons, but there is plenty of optimism to think that drought could end this year. It all depends on the growth of their talented youngsters, how well Dylan Larkin steps into a leadership role, and the improvement on the NHL's worst power play. It is a tall order, but this rebuilding franchise is moving in the right direction. MORE
