EPA's new PFAS plan promises drinking water limits but lacks detail

The Environmental Protection Agency announced Thursday it has a new 25 step plan to tackle PFAS contamination. One main component is to set drinking water limits by the end of the year on a pair of PFAS that are no longer in use in the United States. The move is a significant leap forward. Michigan has tried setting its own standard. However, any standard won't be enforceable for years as it goes through the various approval processes. So any Michigan resident who expects fast federal action won't be satisfied.

Washington dignitaries come out to honor Dingell

Bill Clinton spoke. So did former House Speaker John Boehner. In fact, Democrats and Republicans alike attended Thursday's funeral service in Washington, D.C. for former Michigan Rep. John Dingell. Other eulogists included Fred Upton, John Lewis and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer. Clinton called Dingell, "... a patriot in some cases without peer in the history of America." Boehner referred to him as "A mentor to many of us who served with him in Congress." Added Upton, "He nudged us all to work together." MORE

Mostly calm weather weekend offers a much needed break

It's gonna be cold this weekend. (It is February after all.) And it might be windy in a few spots in the state. (That's nothing new.) But at least it doesn't look as if Michigan will have to deal with rain or snow in the coming days. (Thank goodness! White knuckle driving isn't as glamorous as the Fast and the Furious movies make it look.) Check out the complete weekend forecast by clicking on the next word. MORE

Got fans? Attendance figures for men's college hoops teams in Michigan
hat
It comes as little surprise that Michigan State University is the top drawing college basketball team in the state. Years of excellence, a rowdy fan base and the largest arena will do that. However, Green & White aren't the only colors that draw. Hope and Grand Valley State lead their respective conferences in attendance - the MIAA and the GLIAC. Also, Oakland (Horizon), Ferris State and Michigan Tech (GLIAC), and Calvin and Olivet (MIAA) all are top 3 in their conferences. We suspect Central Michigan would be up there in the MAC, too, if you still could throw toilet paper on the court. (If you don't know, Google it.) MORE

These are the biggest movies to put on your must see list for 2019

This year is looking as if it will be a blockbuster year at the movies. There are a number of highly anticipated sequels on the schedule, as well as live action versions of some Disney animated classics. We've compiled some trailers to get your cinematic juices flowing. Of course, maybe the biggest flick of the year has yet to release a trailer. We suppose that just has us yearning for Star Wars: Episode IX that much more. MORE
